The New National Guard

Sometimes it was not the royal family or the royal favourites who were the victims of pamphlets. It is a reaction to the newly established National Guard and the new "soldiers". These are monks and other members of the clergy recently enlisted in the force. The text reads: "Monks learning to drill. With a bit of patience we will do it right and end up marching like the others; and the nation will turn us into good citizens." The pamphlet is from 1790 and the National Guard was created in 1789.
