The Antechamber

This was also a part of Madame de Maintenon's room and she used it as her large drawing room. It used to be larger but in 1812 it was decided that a staircase leading to the entresol should be installed and thus the room was reduced in size. The damask on the walls have the peculiar name of "Egypt's Earth" - this one has been bordered with crimson and green patterns. Three paintings were chosen for this room: "Apollo Receiving His Quiver and Arrows from Mercury" by Noël Coypel, "Juno and Flora" by Bon de Boulogne and two paintings of "Zephyr and Flora" by Michel Corneille and Noël Coypel.
The fireplace is of red marble while the floor changed between white square tiles and black diamond-shaped tiles. The centre of the room is occupied by a large wooden table with six legs carved as sphinxes.
